I got the chance guest on the new Alfie Joey afternoon show on BBC radio Newcastle on friday, so I took it. We talked about the Edinburgh show, and it’s the first time I’ve tried to succinctly leap the verbal hurdles of ‘yes, it’s a comedy show about eczema’ and ‘eczema’s not funny’ its more about the experience of living with it and growing pains.
Before all that however, I remember I went to school with one of the presenter’s at the station, and on Alfies’ questioning, called Gilly Hope ‘posh’, which was probably not entirely true. I think I meant to say ’smart’, as she always had pig tails in, but then I had a big basin cut. Anyway, after the interview I called in on my mum, who as well as being a teacher at the school we both went to way back, was all to happy to dug out some embarassing old photos at my request.

Well hello John Cooper.
I nearly fell over when I heard you on the wireless on Friday, I was not near a phone to call to agree with you that I am indeed very posh!
I didnt realise you moved into the comedy circut- I remember your brother Peter I think he did a course at Shiney Row college, what is he up to now?
I was trying to wrack my brains- where did you go to after primary school you didnt go to monkey house?
looking at the photograph.. the girl to the right is emma singleton i beleive she is a physio at a local hospital. Chris brown next to you is an accountant .. always very clever, he has 3 kids one of which goes to school with my oldest daughter.
Alison Miller to your left, very clever I last saw her in the pub one christmas a few years back she was at either oxford or cambridge.
I will keep an eye on your blog and will try to catch one of your shows…. I will bring Claire Mackintosh along, we are still great pals
